A long-standing and well-respected voice within the Australian publishing industry, Bernadette Foley is a font of information on all aspects of the global book world. Working as an editor and publisher for more than 30 years, Bernadette was publisher of fiction and non-fiction for international publishing house Hachette Australia for over 10 years as well as Pan Macmillan.
Bernadette has guided many manuscripts to publication and presented at national writers’ festivals and editing and writing events. She also co-created the Graduate Certificate in Editing and Publishing at University of Technology, Sydney, and taught in the Professional Editing and Book Publishing and Marketing units.
To assist new writers, Bernadette co-founded the QWC/Hachette Australia Manuscript Development Program. For the past six years she has run her own business, Broadcast Books, working directly with writers, assisting and encouraging them to develop their writing skills through individual mentoring and group workshops.
In 2015, Bernadette received the George Robertson Award for Service to the Australian Publishing Industry.
