Laurel Cohn
Developmental Book Editor
Laurel has a PhD in Literary and Cultural Studies, and loves to work with writers, publishers and community organisations to share her knowledge on the world of writing. She is a regular workshop presenter in Australia for Writing NSW, Writers Victoria, Queensland Writers Centre and Byron Writers Festival.
As a developmental book editor passionate about communication and the power of stories in our lives, she has been helping writers prepare their work for publication since the 1980s.
At The Art of Writing, Laurel teaches how to resist the temptation of using a slab of backstory rather than artfully placing our character's history throughout our story. She covers the importance of carefully developing the who, how, when, where and why, and how to include "past" in our text.
