What is the experience level necessary? Beginners, intermediate or advanced?
We welcome every skill level! Whether you are still trying to figure out how to start your first chapter or you are working on the finishing touches of your final draft, our retreats are for you.
Do I have to come with work prepared?
All we ask is that you bring what you have worked on so far. This could be an idea that you have brainstormed or a string of chapters. We welcome you with no pressure or expectations.
What are some examples of previous attendees' work?
Example projects of previous attendees include (but are not limited to):
- Drafted memoir notes
- Halfway through writing a historical romance
- Developing ideas for a movie script
- Working on contemporary romance set in Chicago, USA
- Fiction thriller novel
- Fantasy fiction story
- Juggling two books, including a young adult (YA) story, both set in different countries
- Final edits of a sci-fi book, looking to make editorial debut
- Writing first book proposal
- Adapting non-fiction work and academic essays to fiction
- Have published a non-fiction book that is research focused in the past, struggling to write something more personal now
- A series of short stories
- Longtime academic editor, turning to creative writing after many years away
What are the class sizes?
Our writing groups strike the perfect balance: they are big enough to have a good level of diverse opinions and small enough to have that intimate feel. We close our retreats at 13 writers - ideal for deep discussions and learning from one another.
Do topics stay the same or differ from season to season?
There are specific themes across different courses. This means that there is overlap between course content across courses but each one has a specific driver.
What is included in the price? Are travel, hotel and airfare included?
The cost of the retreat includes:
- All tuition and Zoom lectures
- Special appearances from editors and agents
- Welcome drinks and opening dinner
- Morning cappuccino breaks
- All wine during our evening special Aperitivo Zoom hours
Please note that travel, hotel and airfare are not included.
